Hi everyone! In this post we want to introduce ourselves. We are Meow Tech Foundation. Meow Tech Foundation is an initiative which hosts public services, software mirrors and other stuff to benefit the liberated tech space. For now we are just a community but soon we will become an actual nonprofit to be even more transparent.

So far we are hosting:
- Wafrn (decentralized open-source social media which connects to Fediverse and Bluesky)
- Sharkey (decentralized, federated and open-source social media most similar to Twitter/X and Bluesky)
- PieFed (decentralized, federated and open-source news aggregator)
- Fediverse relay
- Forgejo (open-source software forge)
- supports hosting static webpages on the kitties.page domain
- has a tiny runner (2 fast cores and 2 GiB of RAM) and a large runner (16 slow cores and 16 GiB of RAM)
- Matrix server (decentralized, federated and open-source chatting protocol), currently is invite-only, you can ask @link for an invite
- IRCv3 server (modern evolution of the mature public chatting protocol) at talk.meowtech.foundation:6697, official chats are #general and #meowtechfoundation
- Wastebin (minimalistic pastebin with options to enable encryption, set expiration timer and make it burn after reading)
- Wiki (under construction on a new domain) with guides on liberated services
- Website which hosts Ukrainian software mirrors, so far it hosts:
- Chimera Linux mirror (not officially recognised, though, but we might've messed up when trying to make the team aware, and now i'm kinda hesitant to do that again to not appear as annoying, sorry neocat_pensive)

hi!
i have finally bought a second server (well, not really a server, it's a Lenovo ThinkStation P330 SFF, but will do) which will house most if not all of the services which are currently hosted on the dedicated server
the specs are:
- Intel Xeon E-2226G (6c/6t @ 3.4-4.7 GHz)
- 2x8 GiB of some random no name non-ECC RAM, very promising, haha
- 512 GiB SanDisk X400 SATA SSD
expect migration announcement shortly :3

another bit of news for today: we've published an AI policy for contributing to the foundation and using the services of the foundation in English and Ukrainian

TL;DR: we prohibit any AI contributions, and also any AI usage except when it is used to assist people with disabilities
we would like to hear your feedback on this since we want to limit AI as much as possible without actively harming people who rely on it to be able to use their device

hello there!
quick announcement - since the Chat Control 1.0 has passed the vote today, even though it's not in effect yet, as it has to go through some more bureaucracy, and it's not the Chat Control which mandates scanning of the encrypted chats, we will realise our plans to migrate our services to our own infrastructure in Ukraine sooner, but, for the time 🐝ing, in my home lab instead of a data center of sorts
i will buy another server for my home lab, spec-wise similar to the dedicated server our stuff is hosted currently hosted on, and then will begin the migration

hello there!
been busy with my main job, driving me insane lately, but anyway
me and @swirly jointly made a subsection in the ActivityPub comparison table about the use of generative AI in the different software under the Freedom section
it features the description of the policy, if there is any defined, and the slop score provided by repo-slopscore hosted on slopscan.ava.pet (with the permission from ava, many thanks :3), with 100 meaning that the repo is fully clean from any AI
progress is slow lately but, again, job, as well as personal stuff (coming out as an enby is hard) is impacting my ability to contribute
i'm not giving up any time soon

not much news lately since i'm busy with filling out our wiki with articles
so far i have written a small article about Sharkey on wiki.meowtech.foundation/wiki/Sharkey and i started writing an article about self-hosting Sharkey on wiki.meowtech.foundation/wiki/Selfhost:Sharkey

also @swirly once again contributed to the wiki by starting a research on Iceshrimp.NET's features on wiki.meowtech.foundation/wiki/Comparison_of_ActivityPub_software

and also we have received our first donation yesterday :3

couple of important news:
- Open Source Europe have accepted our application to become our fiscal host, so now we can accept donations on our Open Collective page
- after some thinking, we have reconsidered our goal to be more... global?.. we want to do more good, that's what i wanted to say
our goal now is to help people to start their own self-hosting and decentralization journey
to achieve this, we also now will provide resources to help self-hosting and decentralization, like guides, along with providing public services, which aside from regular use, also can be used to evaluate a certain software before making a decision if you want to self-host it or not

and now for the promised news:
- i think the Matrix homeserver is ready for the limited launch now. it is hosted on chat.meowtech.foundation. the link is a redirect to the instance of Sable client hosted on app.chat.meowtech.foundation, but you can still use it with your favorite Matrix client. the homeserver supports both legacy and modern calls. for now, the server will be invite-only, you can message me to ask for an account. we also have a Matrix space now, available at #meow-tech-foundation:chat.meowtech.foundation
- mainly because i need to distribute the credentials for Matrix accounts somehow, we also now host a private pastebin at bin.meowtech.foundation, it is minimalistic, supports encryption, as well as timed and one-time pastebins

hello!
there were no news yesterday cuz i was busy with uni stuff, but i have some quickies for today, and they are all about our git forge (reminder that you can register via an existing Codeberg account :3)
- we now have a tiny runner, which has 2 cores and 2 GiB of RAM, i also plan to make another runner on my home server which has more cores than the dedicated server, but they're slower, and also it has more RAM
- you can now host a static webpage on kitties.page domain, there's no main page on that domain, but the instructions from codeberg.page which have "new method" in parentheses should work
there might be more news today, so stay tuned :3

hi everyone!
we now have a PieFed instance hosted on meowing.twink.men
PieFed is a federated aggregator akin to Reddit
there are some other Fediverse aggregators such as Lemmy and Mbin, but as someone, who used all of those, i can say that PieFed is way superior from all of them:
- there are a lot of well-being options, such as filtering posts with politics, NSFW, AI etc; limiting screen time and many more
- the UI is way more fleshed out than Lemmy/Mbin (though don't trust my opinion on this one, because i can operate in even the shittiest of UIs)
- it seems to be the least problematic one (Lemmy, for example, is famously made by tankies)
- there are a lot more features overall

DeltaChat relay requires mail ports, so yeah
also Piefed?, or Mbin or whatnot
most probably PieFed, Mbin's UI is miserable and Lemmy is made by tankies
